Full description

A Turkish company which manufactures kettles, teapots, saucepans, fry pans and coffee pots is looking for technological partners/research institutes or companies to develop/transfer technologies of plasma polishing stainless steel used in cookware finishing. The company is looking for a license agreement, a technical cooperation or commercial agreement with technical assistance.

The polishing process used by the company is done manually and the materials used to polish the surface are acidic and toxic materials. The operator must be very careful during the process because the operation is performed in front of a spinning shaft and the operator rubs the material to the spinning polishing material. This may prove to be harmful. The process takes too much time and the materials used are toxic.

The plasma polishing technology is a new and environmentally friendly surface technology based on the well-known electro-polishing with anodic attack on the metal surface, but differs essentially in the used parameters. The method they are looking for can be used for stainless steel. The technology must be applicable for pieces used in cookware production, provide high gloss and low metal removal rate without using acid or other toxic components. The process consists of a certain electrochemical process by means of high voltage with hot electrolytes and enables to build up a plasma skin around the sample surface at atmospheric pressure. Due to this highly reactive process, surfaces will be created accompanied by generating a special gloss and increased corrosion resistance.

With comparison to manual polishing processes the new method leads to a smaller material removal connected with much better gloss attributes. No toxic materials are used and toxic influences on the surface can be excluded. For stainless steel that the company uses in the production of cookware, the corrosion resistance is also increased.
