The European Directive on agency workers aims to give temporary employees a fairer deal in the workplace with regard to working time, overtime, breaks, rests periods, night work, public holidays and pay.
Enterprise Europe Yorkshire is running a free workshop on the new agency worker rules to help firms understand how they may affect their business, and prepare for changes ahead of the UK enforcing regulations. The event will take place in Leeds on Friday 5th March 2010 from 10am – 1.30pm.
Although Member States are not required to adopt the necessary national laws to comply with the European Directive until a deadline of December 2011, the draft UK Bill has already been laid before Parliament during January 2010. Speakers include a representative from the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills, employment law experts and a local employment agency.
There will also be a chance to ask questions and to network with the speakers and other delegates. A light lunch will be provided.
10/03/2010 - 12/03/2010 Paris, France UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) is organising a trade visit to France which will take place on 10-12th March 2010. The visit will consist of an overview of the French market by UKTI market specialists and ‘In Market Support’* through using UKTI’s Overseas Market Introduction Service (OMIS). OMIS is a service which puts businesses directly in touch with Commercial staff based in Overseas Embassies, Consulates and High Commissions to provide local knowledge and market analysis tailored to requirements.
The UKTI team in France has identified key sectors where there are opportunities for both UK exports and investments. These include: biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, chemicals, software and ICT, creative/media/design, environment, aerospace, railways, automotive industry and food and drink.
*’In Market Support’ requires a minimum cost of £245, to be paid directly by participants. Each delegate will be required to take up a minimum £245 OMIS research package that will provide 6 potential contacts in Ile-de-France region (Paris conurbation). These will be specific to each company and will have agreed that they can be contacted by a UK company. Add-ons are also possible such as market information, extra contacts, or trying to arrange meeting with contacts which will incur higher costs.
Travel and hotels are to be paid directly by participants. However, eligible companies will be able to access UKTI’s Targeted Export Support Scheme (TESS) for a subsidy of up to 50% to the maximium value of £329 towards cost of travel and accommodation. Once a booking form has been approved, UKTI will be able to assist with the TESS application.

How to Register?

Click on the link Registration. Fill in a short profile to describe your organisation, a cooperation profile to describe what you are offering or looking for and choose your assisting network (if applicable). Your user name is your e-mail address. Select a password to enable access to your data.
For each type of collaboration sought (e.g. technical cooperation agreement, joint venture, commercial alliance, etc) a new short profile can be submitted. Furthermore, each profile can be assigned to a different representative within your organisation.
All entries will be checked and validated before being included in the catalogue. All fields are mandatory. If information is missing or unclear we will contact you. Profiles which are incomplete, unclear or not relevant to the event will not be included in the catalogue.
How to Request Meetings
Select from the catalogue of cooperation profiles the partners with whom you wish to meet. A search facility by keyword will help you to identify relevant profiles. The requested partner will receive a notification of your interest. When he/she confirms his/her interest in meeting you, the meeting will be scheduled according to your availability. In your Matching Report you can find an overview of requested and confirmed meetings.

15/03/2010 - 17/03/2010 Granada, Spain. The European Week of Innovative Regions in Europe (WIRE 2010) will take place from 15 to 17 March 2010 in Granada, Spain. It focuses on the use of the resources devoted to research and development (R&D), especially the Structural Funds (SF) and their potential synergy with the EU's Framework Programmes (FPs) and the Innovation and Competitiveness Framework Programme (CIP).
There will be three different events taking place during this week:
-a conference on the efficient and effective use of the budget earmarked in the Structural Funds for research and technology development (RTD) and innovation, including their synergies with the FPs and the CIP;
-a conference on research potential, focusing on the assessment of the results and identification of best practices of the Research Potential (REGPOT) calls within the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) 'Capacities' Programme;
-a 'Regions of Knowledge' conference, which deals with the assessment of the results and the identification of best practices of the Regions of Knowledge (REGIONS) calls within the FP7 'Capacities' Programme.
There is also a call for posters to be displayed, presented and discussed in the course of the conference week. Their abstracts will be made available via the Conference website as well as distributed in electronic form together with the Conference documents. The deadline for abstract submission is December 15th 2009.

23/03/2010 - 25/03/2010 Barcelona, Spain UKTI is inviting regional companies to sign up as one of the 20 regional companies participating in the International Business Network (IBN) in Barcelona. The business networking event will take place over 3 days as part of the Barcelona Festival of Culture and Commerce organised by Marketing Leeds. It aims to help companies establish business contacts in the Iberian market through targeted networking and bespoke meetings.
As part of the Subsidised Package (at the cost of £500) every company will be part of a high profile regional activity in conjunction with Marketing Leeds, and will have the opportunity to showcase their sector, skills and expertise.
