<title><![CDATA[High Value Manufacturing   Accelerator Bootcamp]]></title>

<description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Bootcamp competition closes on the 30th of May 2012, don&rsquo;t miss your chance to apply.</strong></p>
<p>There are places for only 8 young established engineering ventures on&nbsp;the intensive 3 day residential Bootcamp.&nbsp; The programme and its mentors will cover all aspects of business including managing technology and product development, go to market strategy, finances and Intellectual Property.&nbsp; This is the UK&rsquo;s 1st Accelerator Programme targeted at the High Value Manufacturing Sector and Qi3 Accelerator and its team of mentors are extremely motivated to help businesses making real engineered products, be they destined for the environmental sustainability, healthcare, industry or defence markets.</p>
<p>The programme is generously sponsored by ideaSpace, Qi3 Accelerator, Harrison Clark, Williams Powell, Synergy Energy and Wren Capital and supported by the Technology Strategy Board, NESTA and CIR Strategy.&nbsp; Therefore we only need to ask for a token contribution towards accommodation from companies that attend.&nbsp; We are not seeking equity stakes in the companies that participate, but Qi3 Accelerator and other investors will be naturally keen to see if the ventures are attractive investments at the end of the process.</p>

<title><![CDATA[Genera 2012: Technological Brokerage Event In Energy and Environment]]></title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>GENERA 2012, Energy and Environment International Trade Fair,will hold its 15th edition from 23 to 25 May 2012 as a trade meeting point and a place to do business for the renewable energy sector.</p>
<p>Within the framework of Genera 2012, Fundaci&oacute;n madri+d will organize an international transfer technology day to exchange information between possible technological partners.</p>
<p>The main objective of the event is to create a meeting forum for companies, research institutes, universities and other organizations that are actively engaged within the field of renewable energy and environment. Participants may provide opportunities for collaboration and business based technology, through aimed to agreement bilateral meetings.</p>
<p>The collaboration of universities and the Public Research organisms (OPIs) of madri+d system in the organization of these meetings speed up the transfer of technology and knowledge from universities and research centers to the business. In addition, there will be collaboration with representatives from business entities that provide the identification of technological needs in this rapidly evolving sector.</p>

<p>Coinciding with WINDFORCE 2012 in Bremen, Germany, Enterprise Europe Network Bremen will be hosting a B2B matchmaking event in the afternoon of 26 June 2012.&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.windforce2012.com/">WINDFORCE 2012</a> is Germany&#39;s biggest offshore wind conference and will this year include for the first time, an offshore trade fair.</p>
<p><strong>WHY ATTEND?</strong></p>
<p>The B2B matchmaking event is ideal for networking with like-minded professionals and making contact with potential business partners in a formal and pre-arranged manner.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>HOW DOES A MATCHMAKING EVENT WORK?</strong></p>
<p>Participants will be asked to produce a short company profile upon registration which will be inserted into an event catalogue. Meetings will be requested based on this catalogue with meeting schedules being sent to participants prior to the event.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Each participant will then have the opportunity to request up to nine 20-minute face-to-face meetings.</p>

<p>UK Trade &amp; Investment (UKTI) Yorkshire, in collaboration with UKTI East Midlands and Russian market specialists, School of Thought 2000 Ltd, is running a trade visit to Russia in September 2012.</p>
<p>Companies will fly into Yekaterinburg for a welcome and introductory briefing organised by the British Consulate, visit Kazan and attend their own individual meetings.&nbsp; There will be an optional visit to Sochi Forum to scope potential Olympic and other business opportunities in the form of one-to-one meetings.</p>
<p>This visit is open to experienced exporters from all sectors who are interested in doing business in Russia, partnering with companies in Russia or looking to expand operations into that country.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Why Russia?</strong></p>
<p>Russia is the UK&rsquo;s third largest export market outside Europe and North America, with favourable cross-sector opportunities, some unique in scale.&nbsp; The Russian Government&rsquo;s economy modernisation and infrastructure development agenda, underpinned by 140m consumers&rsquo; appetite for quality goods and services, produces a need for international expertise and products.&nbsp;</p>
<p>UK exports to Russia in 2011 increased by 39% on 2010 levels and equalled &pound;4.78bn.&nbsp; Since 2001, UK-Russia trade has been growing by an average of 21% year-on-year.</p>

<title><![CDATA[New developments in food science: realising the potential of omics' technologies]]></title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>The thirteenth in a series of annual symposia in food science is jointly organised by The Food and Environment Research Agency (Fera), UK, and the Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (JIFSAN), University of Maryland, USA.</p>
<p>Each year the symposium focuses on a different topic associated with state-of-the-art food science and technology. The topic of the 2012 event is &ldquo;New developments in food science: realising the potential of &lsquo;omics&rsquo;<br>
	technologies&rdquo;.</p>
<p>Genomic, proteomic and metabolomic technologies are rapidly developing, enabling capabilities (or resources) in biological sciences that will have far reaching impacts in the food and agricultural science sectors. The Symposium aims to explore the potential applications of these technologies in a variety of areas relating to food and sustainable crop production. It be held in York, UK, in June 2012 and will bring together industrial, academic and government scientists to explore the present and future impact of &lsquo;omics&rsquo; technologies in<br>
	food science.</p>
<p>International speakers with a broad range of expertise and perspectives will describe research and lead discussion that will demonstrate the profound changes that &lsquo;omics&rsquo; technologies can deliver in their respective sectors. The symposium will be supplemented by consumer, policy and regulatory perspectives relevant to the food industry.</p>

<p>ORGANISING INSTITUTIONS</p>
<p>Fera, The Food and Environment Research Agency, is an executive agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). It specialises in the sciences underpinning food safety and quality, agriculture for sustainable crop production, environmental management and conservation. Fera&rsquo;s overarching purpose is to support and develop a sustainable food chain, a healthy natural environment, and to protect the global community from biological and chemical risks. Located in a purpose-built complex at Sand Hutton, York, with state-of-the-art research facilities it provides scientific advice and technical support to public and private sector customers in the UK and worldwide.</p>
<p>JIFSAN, the Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (JIFSAN) is the foundation of public and private partnerships that provides the scientific basis for ensuring a safe, wholesome food supply as well as provide the infrastructure for contributions to national food safety programs and international food standards. The Institute fosters the missions of FDA and the University of Maryland through the creation of partnerships to increase the quantity and quality of research, which will provide the basis for sound public health policy. This includes multidisciplinary research, outreach and educational programs, and policy studies.</p>

<p>It is anticipated that 200 delegates from industry, government and academia will participate in the event. The symposium will host a state-of-the art exhibition focussed on &lsquo;omics&rsquo; technologies.
