How to Register?

Registration is open until the 12th of February 2010:

Click on the link Registration. Fill in a short profile to describe your organisation, a cooperation profile to describe what you are offering or looking for and choose your assisting network (if applicable). Your user name is your e-mail address. Select a password to enable access to your data.

For each type of collaboration sought (e.g. technical cooperation agreement, joint venture, commercial alliance, etc) a new short profile can be submitted. Furthermore, each profile can be assigned to a different representative within your organisation.

All entries will be checked and validated before being included in the catalogue. All fields are mandatory. If information is missing or unclear we will contact you. Profiles which are incomplete, unclear or not relevant to the event will not be included in the catalogue.

How to Request Meetings

Select from the catalogue of cooperation profiles the partners with whom you wish to meet. A search facility by keyword will help you to identify relevant profiles. The requested partner will receive a notification of your interest. When he/she confirms his/her interest in meeting you, the meeting will be scheduled according to your availability. In your Matching Report you can find an overview of requested and confirmed meetings.

Before the event starts you will receive your personal meeting schedule by e-mail.

The meetings will take place at London ExCeL (South Gallery 1, Room 7) on the 10th of March 2010 parallel to Oceanology International fair.

The UKTI team in France has identified key sectors where there are opportunities for both UK exports and investments.  These include: biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, chemicals, software and ICT, creative/media/design, environment, aerospace, railways, automotive industry and food and drink.

*’In Market Support’ requires a minimum cost of £245, to be paid directly by participants.  Each delegate will be required to take up a minimum £245 OMIS research package that will provide 6 potential contacts in Ile-de-France region (Paris conurbation).  These will be specific to each company and will have agreed that they can be contacted by a UK company.  Add-ons are also possible such as market information, extra contacts, or trying to arrange meeting with contacts which will incur higher costs.

Travel and hotels are to be paid directly by participants.  However, eligible companies will be able to access UKTI’s Targeted Export Support Scheme (TESS) for a subsidy of up to 50% to the maximium value of £329 towards cost of travel and accommodation.  Once a booking form has been approved, UKTI will be able to assist with the TESS application.

The European Directive on agency workers aims to give temporary employees a fairer deal in the workplace with regard to working time, overtime, breaks, rests periods, night work, public holidays and pay.

Enterprise Europe Yorkshire is running a free workshop on the new agency worker rules to help firms understand how they may affect their business, and prepare for changes ahead of the UK enforcing regulations.  The event will take place in Leeds on Friday 5th March 2010 from 10am – 1.30pm.

Although Member States are not required to adopt the necessary national laws to comply with the European Directive until a deadline of December 2011, the draft UK Bill has already been laid before Parliament during January 2010.   Speakers include a representative from the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills, employment law experts and a local employment agency.

There will also be a chance to ask questions and to network with the speakers and other delegates.  A light lunch will be provided.

This Workshop is part of a series being offered free of charge to researchers and others potentially involved in developing proposals for FP7 projects, whether as a Coordinator or project partner.

FP7 projects bring together partners from different countries and cultures, different sectors, different scales of enterprise – from small firms up to multi-nationals – and from academe as well as industry.  These diverse partners have different priorities, different ways of working, and may well have different expectations of the project.  Managing this degree of diversity and maintaining a coherent project requires a very clear structure for the project; in particular, well laid out processes for decision-taking, transparent financial systems, and effective means of resolving conflict.  It is also essential to have clear understandings on intellectual property, publication and confidentiality.

It is important that researchers should have a clear understanding of these issues and not leave them to others to sort out.  This workshop will examine the obligations imposed by the European Commission’s Grant Agreement and how they can be modified and supplemented by a Consortium Agreement to produce a sound legal basis for an FP7 project.  The various Model Agreements will be reviewed as well as processes for arriving at a timely conclusion to the negotiation of these agreements.

• What terms and conditions need to be agreed up front with consortium partners?
• What are the rules governing IPR in FP7 projects?
• Who owns results and who can do what with them?
• What options are open to a consortium in how it handles IPR between its members?
• How does the way IPR is treated affect the chances of getting the grant?
• How do you avoid the major pitfalls and grasp the opportunities concerning IPR?
• How are FP7 projects costed and budgeted?
• What costs are eligible and how are they reimbursed?
• What are the financial risks of participation?
• Who controls project finances?
• What happens about record keeping and audits?

The first European SME Week, taking place from 6 to 14 May 2009, is a campaign to promote entrepreneurship across Europe and to inform entrepreneurs about support available for them at European, national and local level. The Northern Way, The Technology Strategy Board and the Department of Energy and Climate Change have announced a joint £15m Carbon Abatement Technologies (CATs) joint competition to be launched in June 2009. The competition focuses on the Applied Research, Development and Pilot Demonstration of CATs that will improve efficiency, reduce cost and accelerate deployment when applied to large single point sources of CO2 emissions (eg fossil power plants & process plants, such as metal processing, chemical & cement). £1M of this funding is to be used for short term feasibility studies specifically targeted at SMEs. (Please note: A requirement of this TSB Call is that it be industry-led and involve two or more organisations).

Research projects should focus on the development of technologies which will offer significant improvements in:
• Efficiency of conversion processes to reduce the amount of fuel consumed and associated CO2 emissions.
• Technologies which significantly reduce emissions from process industries (such as petrochemicals, cement and metals production).
• Fuel switching to lower carbon alternatives such as co-firing with biomass or waste.
• Carbon capture technologies, CO2 transport, storage and use.
• Development of underpinning technologies that support carbon abatement technologies such as those relating to materials, non-destructive inspection, instrumentation, modelling and condition monitoring.

The UK Information Day on the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme 2009 Call for Proposals will take place in London on Friday 3rd April 2009.  The day will include presentations on the Call priorities and tips on how to increase your chances of success.

The 2009 IEE Call for Proposals is expected to be launched at the end of March 2009.  The Call budget is 65M€ and the Call deadline will be before the end of July 2009.  It is anticipated that the 2009 Call for Proposals will be extremely competitive, with the Commission looking for high quality, ambitious projects. 

Please note that Intelligent Energy - Europe is a non-technological funding programme. Eco-innovation is becoming increasingly important in today’s climate as it involves all relevant innovative technologies supporting the protection of the environment and the sustainability of natural resources.

The aim of this workshop is to provide participants with an overview of some of the different funding and support that is available to organisations in the field of eco-innovation. EU Research Programmes are a significant source of funding for collaborative projects with important industrial and commercial potential.  Of the €54,000 million dedicated to the FP7 budget, over €34,000 million will be spent on collaborative projects.  The Commission has a target that 17% of all FP7 funds should reach SMEs.

Getting involved in EU projects requires patience and the investment of time; they are meant to match strategic needs rather than be a quick fix.  The agenda for FP7 isn’t fixed; the EU needs to keep its programmes in step with changing market needs and it maintains a dialogue with a variety of stakeholders who help shape the future direction of programmes.

Free Information Day

The Energie Helpline UK is holding a free Information Day presenting information on the 2009 FP7 Energy Calls for Proposals and the first Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) Call for Proposals.  You can register for the event by clicking here.

The programme aims to strengthen the scientific and technological base of European industry and encourage international competitiveness, with particular emphasis on helping SMEs.

Enterprise Europe Yorkshire provides support services in the Yorkshire & Humber region to organisations wishing to participate in FP7. The seminar is organised by EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation, EURADA and the Invest in France Agency in cooperation with UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and Wallonia Export and Investment Agency (AWEX).  It aims to facilitate the creation of EU-Japan networks in relation to EU industrial sectors.  EU and Japanese companies interested in investing or developing cooperation in R&D in specific sectors will have the opportunity to meet regional and national bodies supporting investment and competitiveness.

Industrial clusters are networks of bodies such as companies, research institutes and universities in specific industry fields sharing both the risks and benefits of innovation, and focusing on developing and commercially exploiting new technologies.

Outstanding scientific quality is essential to success in the fierce competition for FP7 projects, but it is far from being enough.  The evaluation scheme gives equal weight to science, implementation and impact.  Proposals must therefore not only show excellence in the science, but present a strong and well-balanced Consortium that is well-organised and ready to deliver both the scientific objectives and the intended wider impacts of the project.

This Level III workshop will focus on implementation and impact, and the vital part played by the way a project consortium is structured and the project is managed.  It will be relevant to those involved directly or indirectly in the development of proposals; to those who provide support to researchers; and to anyone responsible for the implementation of an FP7 project.
